In this course the students will experience traveling in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings under blindfold. This course will also address instructional strategies such as the use of a detection cane, auditory techniques and traffic strategies. Also, they will learn how to teach visually impaired individuals to navigate more safely, effectively and with more independence within their chosen environment. This includes teaching the use of a detection cane. Simulation of blindness will allow a better understanding of the orientation and mobility problems experienced by visually impaired consumers. Students alternately play the role of the consumer and the orientation and mobility specialist under the supervision of the teacher. Different indoor and outdoor environments are used to carry out the lessons. Students will be invited to participate actively in all the lessons whether in the role of the consumer, observer or pedagogue. They will have to carry out preparatory readings and have to plan certain interventions, which will imply a preliminary analysist of the surroundings.
